Everything is blooming!!!
My miniature garden is apparently producing like there's no tomorrow. Every vegetable that I've planted is now bearing fruit. The tiny garden is producing at this point about 2 dinners worth of vegetables per week for a family of 3. For a single person, that's about enough vegetables to last one week, every week for the entire summer. Thus, if the current garden is expanded by a factor of 4, and the proper canning and food preservation capabilities are available, then it would be possible to provide an entire year worth of vegetables for one person on only 9 square meters of soil. Potentially, every backyard east of the Mississipi is capable of providing an entire family with vegetables, thus freeing up huge amounts of arable cropland for the extensive cultivation of grains.
